I never said that what you wear tells the whole story but it is a point of reference. That woman in the Misfits concert shirt I'm going to automatically without even having spoke to her no there's a good chance that we have similar taste in music, but that woman in the mom jeans and pink cardigan Mae share my taste in music movies and I might even have more in common with her but she may also be a Michael Bolton fan who only watches rom-coms and Lifetime movies of the week. The first woman mentioned there's a good chance or probability that we're going to have things in common the second woman is an absolute coin toss I would not know unless I interacted with her. Thereby making the first woman a slightly safer choice. The thing about people who dress mainstream or Normcore (I like that term by the way) come from all different types of people since many people hate dressing that way but have to in order to fit in at work or in networking circles. Where is all the alternative subcultures biker, grunge, rockabilly, goth and so forth tend to be more committed to a certain mindset or energy. In other words nobody dresses like a punk who hates the look and hates the clothes and who is not in the punk scene. But there are plenty of people who dress Normcore or business casual who hate looking like that but they have to dress that way for work and even in their personal life sometimes because of the neighborhood they live in sometimes because of the career path they have chosen because they moved out to the suburbs so their kids can go to a better school and they want to fit in even though in their hearts that's not them. In biker culture there is this phrase that people throw around well actually it's a derogatory term referred to as "rubs" which means "Rich Urban bikers" basically they're referring to doctors lawyers and accountants who live all in the suburbs with their manicured Lawns but on the weekend want to throw on their leather hop on their bike and go the biker bars, a lot of them get the wrong idea about some of those people. And many bikers really hate those people they view it as a form of cultural appropriation. In many cases they are correct but in some cases the rubs really are bikers and they were in that lifestyle before going to college and getting an education enter the corporate world but they still want to be part of the lifestyle but can only do it on weekends. Often those people will re-enter the whole biker lifestyle scene once their kids are off to college. It would be nice to live in a world where people we're free to enter any career field they are good at or have a talent for but still be able to be who they are instead of having to adopt the whole mainstream thing.
